River–Lake System Connectivity Effectively Reduced the Salinity of Lake Water in Bosten Lake, Northwest China

High salinity in water constitutes a serious problem for the aquatic environment management of Bosten Lake. Weak exchange and movement are essential factors high total dissolved solids (TDS) content lake water. To improve quality Lake, river–lake system connectivity project (water diversion) was introduced starting at end 2018, which diverted fresh from Kaidu River Huangshuigou to In this study, effect its mechanism diversion on TDS Lake were evaluated using continuous-field monitoring data. The results showed that effectively reduced changed brackish back freshwater lake. Water also improved spatial distribution content. One year, two years, three years after implementation project, northern, southern, eastern significantly decreased by more than 20%, 25%, 30%, respectively. Our study demonstrated increased annual endogenous pollutant amount discharged homogenized whole reduction realized accelerating lake, especially waters. Therefore, could be used as an effective measure improvement semi-closed inland lakes arid areas.
